Stripped@The Wellington Inn

Thursday August 15, 2013

For me a new venue has just started up again after a years absence Stripped@The Wellington Inn is up and running and I attended my first one last night after I received an invite from Jack Brown, drummer with the Black Delta Movement, who has started a musical solo career with his acoustic guitar, writing original songs and playing one or two covers.
As anyone knows the Wellington Inn is not the largest of public houses and I wondered where the artists might perform. I need not have worried as the smaller area to the main bar was the venue and more than adequate space for performers, sound desk, floor monitors and speakers.

First up was Daniel Tonkin performing solo off the back of Humber Street Sesh with the one off reformation of the Johnsons. This he said was possibly the last ever performance he'd be doing. He didn't even have a playlist and only deciding to play when he was seated in front of the microphone, the sign of either someone off their head or in this case a true professional. And he didn't disappoint.

Second up was Jack Brown, more likely to be known from his drumming with the Black Delta Movement but now trying his hand at a solo venture writing original material and playing acoustic guitar. I must state at this point he is still a band member of the BDM. Jack has a good playing style and his lyrics are well crafted and all in all for only his second live gig was a true performer and commanded the stage and audience well.

Thirdly we have Tim Mellins, a  professional in every sense of the word, his melodic guitar playing in the finger picking style suited his original, well observed lyrics handsomely. His vocals are not over stretched and have a distinct effortless tone. His songs are crafted from everyday observations and from his family life, each one having their own intriguing  story to tell.

Stripped@The Wellington Inn is live every Third Thursday in the month, and as 21 Frets will be attending to do the photography there will be more blogs from this lovely venue in the coming months.

After the hugely successful Humber Street Sesh 2013 and some great images taken,  what lies ahead for 21 Frets Photography?  Well there's the Freedom Festival on 6-8 September and theres plenty of local bands performing on the Freedom Fringe Stage. But before that  I have the pleasure of photographing I'm Maiden Tribute at the Bridlington Bike Festival on the 18 August. I saw and photographed them at their debut gig at Fruit earlier this year and they totally nailed it, so looking forward to seeing them again.
On the 7 September theres the NUKEFEST at Piper, there's a whole host of metal bands including the mighty Innersylum and XIII and Incubated, a great day to be had ...and loud! Starts at midday finishes around midnight.
The Black Delta Movement are part of Drive Live  along with the solid Black Sonic Revolver, Marmalade Sky and Stolen Haven. This takes place on October 5 in Manchester. Photographs hopefully will be put onto my website and Facebook Pages.
